This can be used to dub Hi8 video tapes to digital, but its performance is too good to waste on just that. It takes very good pictures as a camera, and it has smooth video and a variety of functions, making it seem like a camera for high-amateur users.
Although it uses the very old Hi8 video tape, the camera's functions are comparable to modern video cameras, and it also has Sony's unique Nightshot, so it can be used for shooting in dark places.
