Kay " Swish " Blumetta played in the AAGPBL as a utility player between 1944 - 1954 as a pitcher, 1st base and outfield. She played 10 out of 12 seasons; one of four players. Only Dottie Schroeder played all 12 seasons. 1944...Minneapolis Miller Estes and the Milwaukee Chicks. 1945...Grand Rapid Chicks. 1946-1947...Peoria Red Wings. 1947-50...Fort Wayne Daises. 1951-54...Kalamazoo Lassies. In 1944 & 1954 she played twice on a championship team. Kay had 7 playoff appearances: 1944-45, 1948-50, 1952 and 1954. The AAGPBL was formed in 1943 in the Midwest. She moved around a while, as the league shifted players as needed to help teams stay afloat. In 1946 she started pitching sidearm until overhand pitching became effective in 1948-54. 1948 was her most productive season as a pitcher. She was often used as a pinch hitter. Her nickname " swish " came from sharp shooting, not her pitching. She is in Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame.
